Cybermodel Spotlight: David PlazaFrom Jake Cruise

Cybermodel Spotlight: David PlazaFrom Jake Cruise

Rasmus Müller talks to David Plaza from Jake Cruise.

This month’s Cybermodel is 22-year-old David Plaza from Jake Cruise. David made his porn debut with Jake Cruise after he was referred by a friend, porn star Shane Frost. Until recently David was attending a private art school, but he’s presently taking a year off after becoming disillusioned by the high tuition fees and an increasingly profitized university system in which degrees often say more about one’s privilege than about one’s capabilities or knowledge. During his grace year, David has continued his art studies on his own. To supplement his adult industry income, David also moonlights as a gogo dancer. During his first shoot, Jake was quick to realize that  David was a truly kind and sincere person. On set, David proved to have the perfect combination of professionalism and playfulness. What’s your typical day like?
I sleep in, eat, work out, read, do something sexual (whether it’s by myself or with someone else), look up stuff on the Internet, play video games, go to the bathroom, send out emails, laugh, cry, listen to music, think, feel, drink water, dance alone in my room or with/in front of people, text my friends, draw, overthink, underthink. You know, the usual.

Something fans don’t know?
I used to hate reading when I younger, until I was introduced to comic books. They were basically my gateway into reading. Now I read a lot and I’m super thankful comic books exist. It’s one of my pet peeves when people consider them a lesser art form.

What are you currently reading?
On any given day I’m probably reading at least five to ten articles online. Bookwise, I’m currently reading The BreakBeat Poets: New American Poetry in the Age of Hip-Hop edited by Kevin Coval, Quraysh Ali Lansana, and Nate Marshall; World of Warcraft by Daniel Lisi; Pretty Deadly Volume 2 by Kelly Sue Deconnick and Emma Rios; and A View From The Bottom by Nguyen Tan Hoang. Five of my favorite books of all time are Battle Royale by Koushun Takami, Bone by Jeff Smith, What a Wonderful World by Inio Asano, Unwind by Neal Shusterman, and Locke and Key by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez.

Are you a gamer?
I love videogames! I currently own a 3DS and an iPhone, and there’s a Wii where I live. That’s honestly more than enough. Some of my all-time favorites are Kingdom Hearts 2, Sly Cooper 2, Mario Kart, Fire Emblem, Golden Axe, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. on 3DS, and Klonoa 2. Recently I’ve been playing Yugioh Duel Link and Fire Emblem Heroes on my phone  and I’m really into them. It’s amazing how much art is contained in video games and how much they can help people.

How did you get started in the adult industry?
I got started in the adult film industry by applying to different companies through their websites. I think Lucas Entertainment was the second company I applied to and I got a Skype interview with Michael Lucas, who was really nice to me. He said he wanted to work with me, but since I was in California and the company was based in New York, it would be less likely to happen because directors like working with local talent. But he did get me into contact with Shane Frost, who is now my agent. Shane is really cool, nice, and helpful – so there’s that.

How did you first begin working for Jake Cruise?
I first began working with Jake Cruise through Shane Frost. I actually filmed my very first porn scene with Jake Cruise, which was a pretty great experience.

What’s it like to work on a video shoot for Jake Cruise?
Working on a video shoot for Jake was great and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested. I worked directly with Jake in both of my scenes and he is really nice and accommodating. I think we bonded off set as well, which helped. It also really helps when you are actually attracted to the people you are in scenes with, which I was – and I don’t want to speak for anyone else, but I’m pretty sure Jake was too.

Your favorite Jake Cruise video shoot so far?
Both that I were in were fun, but I would say the massage scene because it was extremely relaxing and that was my first time getting a massage with oils, which was… nice.

Are there any other Jake Cruise models with whom you’d like to work?
Just quickly going through the models page on the website, some people I would probably really enjoy working with are Gregor, Derek Parker, Stewart Wellington, Dan, Dexter, and Brad Kalvo.

Do you have a day job?
I have another night job which is gogo dancing. That’s fun. It’s definitely hard physical work at times and I sweat a lot, but I like it. I’m also a maintenance coordinator for the housing cooperative I live in, which helps pay the rent, too.

What other jobs have you had in the past?
In the past I’ve worked with my dad for water well drilling jobs on the side, at a cookie cake stand in a mall, and as a help desk assistant where I would help people restart their computers over the phone. All very thrilling.

Are you interested in any kind of non-adult performance art?
I’m really into illustration, painting, and drawing (I used to major in them) and still practice those art forms. I definitely think dancing, performing, music, and pretty much all art forms are super interesting and can be really inspiring, powerful, and influential.

Are you single right now?
I’m definitely single right now, which is nice. I don’t know how well I would do in a monogamous relationship, especially considering I’ve never been in one. I’ve never been in a stated poly relationship either, but I think I would feel a lot better in one of those or an open one.

What traits usually attract you to someone?
Off the top of my head I would say humor, a nice smile, directness, and having awareness. Also, someone who takes care of themselves and is passionate about something. Oh, and people who don’t get bored. I honestly don’t understand how people can get bored these days when the Internet is a thing.

What are some of the best things about working in adult entertainment?
The pay is really nice compared to other jobs I’ve worked and I feel a lot more valued compared to other jobs I’ve worked as well. Physical comfort is taken into consideration more than say when I worked at a cookie cake stand or as a help desk assistant, which is really good. I’ve met some cool people like Santiago Figueroa, Aiden Woods, Jake Cruise, and obviously my agent Shane Frost. For better or worse, I feel like porn gives some people a platform and I feel like I have a lil’ mini one now which is kind of cool and people have told me that I’ve helped them, which is a really nice feeling. I definitely feel like I’ve learned a lot about my body and myself through the job. Being able to travel for free is really nice when I get flown out on location and my hotel is paid for. It has also made me question and reflect on a number of things, which is cool. I think doing both of those actions is important. Also this one is a bit obvious, but getting to cum and feel sexual pleasure for money is pretty fucking great too.

Are there any downsides to working in adult entertainment?
The stigma against sex workers. People assume they know a lot about me just because I’m in porn. And realistically, they don’t. Stigma sucks as a general rule of thumb.

The most unusual or risky place where you’ve had sex?
One time I started having sex in an elevator, the second the doors closed because a guy and I were cruising each other. I think he was a student residential advisor or a janitor or something. He had a key that let him take the elevator down to the basement floor and then we had sex down there in a bathroom stall. That was cute.

What are your main hobbies and interests right now?
Off the top of my head, some of my hobbies and interests right now are drawing, video games, reading, working out, listening to music, Yugioh, and trying to be happy more. I’m passionate about a lot and I’m obsessed with thinking about how literally everything is a social construct.

Which mainstream celebrities do you think are hot?
Frank Ocean, Jussie Smollett, Angelina Jolie, and Aubrey Plaza. I’m sure there’s other people but I think they are straight men and I’m not really about finding straight men attractive or shining any limelight on them.

Are there any social or political issues that you feel strongly about at the moment?
It would be nice if everyone was emancipated from politics and america (that’s purposefully lowercased) didn’t have a strong history of oppression, repression, slavery, and abuse but it does. Black Lives Matter and if you disagree with that movement or statement you should educated yourself. It is important to resist capitalism. Intersectional feminism is a great and important thing to learn about. Representation is really lacking, composting is cool, and collective liberation is vital. Racism, colorism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, ableism, and classism are all fucking disgusting, insidious things and I think calling them in or out is really important too.

Do you watch much TV?
I don’t watch TV because I don’t have one, but I watch my laptop screen. Some of my favorite shows right now are Boruto and Rupaul’s Drag Race.

What music genres are your favorites?
My favorites genres of music are hip-hop, pop, rap, alternative, and electronic and some of my favorite artists at the moment are Grimes, Kali Uchis, Fleetwood Mac, Purity Ring, Angel Haze, and Stars.

Where did you grow up and what was it like?
I grew up in a really small town in southern New Jersey and it fucking sucked.

What did you want to become when you were a kid?
I really wanted to be a professional artist who could just draw and paint whatever I wanted and/or someone who didn’t live in a really small town in southern New Jersey.

Did you ever do anything as a kid that got you into trouble?
I would question adults a lot. I remember one time in bible school the priest or pastor or rapist (I forget what they’re called) said lying was always a sin and I said, “But what if a sales person is on the phone asking for your parents?” I also annoyed my mom and dad a lot with how much I would question pretty much everything.

Do you have any funny behind-the-scenes stories?
Santiago Figueroa consensually choked me and slapped me around a bit to get me hard off camera, which isn’t exactly funny but it was fun.

A life event or experience that had a lasting effect on you?
I lost two of my best friends to heroin addiction, stigma, death, and this fucked up society which I feel has definitely effected me and will continue to do so in the future. If you are struggling with that, please get help and I really hope you know that you are not alone. It really can get better.

What are you afraid of?
I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m scared of it, but I’m not a fan of authority figures. I guess I’m afraid of being miserable in life… On a lighter note, three of my favorite horror movies are The Conjuring, The Descent, and Get Out.

What life lessons have you learned during recent years?
Anything that can go wrong just may. Take care of yourself and validate your desires, wants, and needs. Humor is actually lifesaving. Mental health really does matter. Be critical of yourself, but don’t beat yourself up. Sunlight is so important, as is breathing. What else? Be happy when you can be and have fun.
