From Peep Shows To Cam Shows: An Ongoing Evolution

Live cam sites might seem like a new concept, but they can actually trace their heritage (at least in basic concept) back to the live, pornographic peep show booths that used to be fairly common in many parts of the United States. At a typical peep show, one could pre-purchase coins or tokens and then enter a private booth. Inside the booth, there would be a window, a partition, or a peephole. By inserting money or tokens into a coin box, one could open the window and watch a live strip show or sex act that was being performed. Good peep show performers were experts at stretching out the action and keeping viewers engaged for as long as possible. With the exception of the logistics and technologies involved, that’s pretty much the same basic system that you’ll find in use today at many pay-per-minute live cam sites. What’s different is that the action has moved out of adult bookstores and onto the Internet. As a result, there’s now a much larger and more diverse talent pool. Instead of just dodgy, world-weary hustlers, today’s live performers come from every walk of life– and with every age group and physical type imaginable. In addition, you can enjoy today’s web cam shows in  complete privacy – which is a big improvement over the need to be seen at a seedy adult bookstore or adult video arcade.

If peep shows weren’t your cup of tea back in the day, you also had the option (and still do) of going to a strip club instead. Once inside, you can watch as many striptease acts as you want.
