The Sound of One Hand Fapping:The Zen-Like World of Gay Audio Porn

You’ve probably watched porn without the sound at some point, but have you ever tried listening to porn without the video? Audio porn has been around for a long time, but recently there’s been a widespread renewal of interest in the genre.

Gay audio porn often features the sound of men jerking off, having sex, talking dirty, or telling erotic stories. Believe it or not, audio porn (straight) on vinyl records was a thing back in the 1960’s. In the 1970’s, audio porn made its way onto 8-track tapes, too. During the pre-internet 1980’s and the early 1990’s telephone-based phone sex lines became a big business, with TV ads for 976 and 1-800 chat lines often being shown late at night. However, when Internet-based instant messaging came along, there was a slump in the phone sex business. When mobile broadband service and camera-equipped smartphones became ubiquitous, they ushered in a new era of video chats, nude selfies, sexting, and mobile porn access. As a result, we’ve now become over-saturated with visual pornography – which may explain why there’s so much interest in audio porn.

In addition to audio recordings of amateur sex, audio porn can also consist of dirty talking, erotica read aloud, or JOI (Jack Off Instruction.) JOI recordings are a popular sub-genre in which a Dom reads a script (or riffs on a theme) as he speaks directly to the listener, asks them questions, and tells them what to do. It can be surprisingly immersive and you may find yourself involuntarily nodding in response to questions, just as a natural reflex.

Fans of dirty talking were among the first to appreciate today’s new wave of audio porn, but the genre has quickly gained a much wider audience, too. Back in February, Roisin Kiberd at Vice Mag and Nona Willis Aronowitz at Playboy both wrote articles about audio porn. In June, Yannick LeClerc at French-language site Fugues approached the same topic but managed to give it more of a gay spin. Other sites soon followed, and the increased mainstream awareness of audio porn led to the creation of even more amateur audio porn recordings.

Unlike video-based porn, audio porn can be enjoyed almost anywhere using headphones. And even folks who would never consider making an amateur porn video can feel safe making an audio porn recording since it’s so anonymous (unless you have an extremely recognizable voice.) We probably won’t ever hear JOI recordings made by Kevin Spacey, Roseanne Barr, or Stephen Hawking. But the rest of us can probably get away with it.

Before the current wave of interest in audio porn happened, it had been an underground sensation on Reddit for years. In Gone Wild Audio, search for keywords like M4M, men, male, etc. At Soundgasm search for “M4M.” YouTube has audio porn, too. Look around on YouTube and you’ll find other examples.

At AudiblePorn the “Masturbation” section contains lots of male solos. Another site to explore is Super Gay Ear Porn. And on Amazon, Bob Vickery sells his Manjack recordings.
