Wade’s statistical analysis includes a list of the top 20 cities offering the highest density of sugar daddies, and for each city he provides the average sugar daddy income, net worth, and monthly sugar daddy budget. San Francisco ranked as #1, followed by Boston, Austin, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. L.A. may only be #5 in terms of sugar daddy density, but it’s #1 when it comes to sugar daddy generosity. According to Wade’s statistical analysis, a typical full-time kept boy in Los Angeles is pulling down a monthly allowance of about $5,710. Not bad, considering the fact that most non-scientific college degrees are increasingly seen as little more than sources of life-altering debt. With kept boys making about the same starting salary as an MD fresh out of his residency, it should come as no surprise that it’s not only gay men who are looking for gay sugar daddies. Increasingly, it’s about survival. According to Gautam Sharma, the 40-year-old creator of Gay Sugar Daddy Finder, there’s currently a general shortage of gay sugar daddies (in terms of how many men are seeking them.) In other words, it’s a buyer’s market.

At first glance, escort and massage sites like Rentboy.com and MassageM4M might seem the logical places to find sugar daddies. However, many sugar daddies (and kept boys) are looking for something very different. Typically, high-end kept boys do not see themselves as prostitutes and do not plan on being career boy-toys. In the same spirit, upper-echelon sugar daddies are usually seeking something more intimate, sincere, and exclusive than a professional escort or masseur can provide. In a Huffington Post editorial written by Amanda Fairbanks, Seeking Arrangement founder Brandon Wade estimated that 35% of his site’s members were college students who had turned to sugar daddy arrangements to help them finance their education.
