Dean Monroe Is Back ‘ And Better Than Ever

Dean Monroe is an actor, model, and musician ‘ and now he’s making his gay porn comeback, too.

There are handsome men – and then there’s Dean Monroe. During the past decade, Dean’s diverse career has encompassed everything from modeling and hardcore porn to music and art-house cinema. During that time, Monroe has matured – but he’s lost nothing in the process. When Dean emerged from a three-year hiatus, his boyish good looks had developed into the more rough-hewn, handsome look of a leading man – and his star showed no signs of fading.

“In the past, I always felt the need to have a smooth body for shooting,” said Monroe when we asked him about the new, hairier profile he’d been posting on Twitter (@DeanMonroeX). “But on occasion, I let my body hair grow and people always reacted positively, saying that it suited me and made me look more manly and attractive.”

Since we last saw him, Dean’s look isn’t the only thing that has expanded.  Born in Australia and educated at an American school in Athens (where he was enrolled by his Greek parents), Dean now splits his time between London and Los Angeles – and his career has been growing and developing just as much as he has himself.

“In the next two years, my plan is to launch my own membership site, Dean Monroe’s World, where I’ll be showcasing new talent. My printed t-shirt collection launches this year, too – and I’m also working with a Russian producer on some new music.”

Those who have followed Dean’s career over the years will already know that he’s extremely ambitious. The same year that Dean filmed the Falcon blockbuster Taking Flight, he also played a gay terrorist in Raspberry Reich from legendary art-core director Bruce LaBruce.

“We’re all just kids trying to live out our fantasies,” Monroe told GaydarNation after the film’s debut, explaining that while he was impressed with the talent one needs to make an indie film, it wasn’t as straightforward as, say, a porno film. “To be honest, when I was shooting the film I had no idea what it was about. I knew about my character, but I couldn’t understand the gist of the whole thing. I was playing this character who was a straight terrorist, and who ended up being gay at the end of the film. I was quite baffled about it!”

The film earned a rave review in the New York Times, where they called it, “A hilarious but hardcore satire… that puts the man back in manifesto.” With that, Monroe (billed as Dean Stathis) began imagining life beyond the confines of a box cover.

In 2008, he released the dance single Closer To You. “It’s the distance between our dreams,” he sings, “growing smaller in time.” For the musically-inclined Monroe, melding his porn persona with his dance-pop sensibilities was a smart move. The single was featured on blogs and in clubs across the world, and it expanded his fan base to include a whole new demographic – women. Among those new fans was Victoria Beckham, who told Dean upon meeting him that he could pass for Colin Farrell. While both have appeared in sex tapes (albeit separately) it is Dean who is the true sexual athlete – a Greek god who sacrifices himself to us, rather than the other way round.

After the hiatus, Dean is back with a vengeance. Despite all his other projects, he’s not about to give up the sex films he loves. He’s shot with Lucas Entertainment, Cocksure Men, Men at Play and with his long-time friend Chi Chi La Rue.

“I’ll continue shooting with whatever directors want to work with me.” he says, “It’s still fun and exciting to be on set, even after ten years.”
