It might seem as if Lucky Daniels just dropped out of the sky and then instantly became an overnight porn sensation, but hardcore fans know that this hot German/Filipino-American born hottie has been modeling for Randy Blue for the last two years. Like many of Randy’s breakout models, Lucky has already caught the attention of many major porn studios and worked for them. As it happens, a lot of his projects have been released in the last couple of months, making it seem like he’s suddenly everywhere at once. We were eager to talk to this exotic stud, so we were happy when we bumped into him before his scheduled interview. One thing we noticed immediately was his gracious attitude and warm smile. After chatting with Lucky for a few hours, we already felt like we had a good feel for who he was. And it turned out that Lucky really was just as nice as he initially appeared.
When you live in a city like Los Angeles you’re bound to bump into both porn stars and mainstream celebrities. Most Angelinos have learned to contain themselves around Hollywood actors and musicians, but porn stars somehow manage to turn many of these same people into giggling school girls. Since we had accidentally run into Lucky, our first question concerned getting recognized in public. “Yeah, I’m noticed sometimes,” he laughed. “People noticed me before, but it’s because I lived in a small town until a couple weeks ago. Everyone in my town knew I did porn, but no one really talked about it,” he said, then adding, “ At least not in front of me. People [were probably whispering], Oh my god – do you know what Lucky does for a living?’” Again he laughs, recalling the intimate politics of smalltown living. Lucky then told me a quick story about one of his friends who had moved to another state – and who had later called him to say that she knew about his porn career. Which was proof that at least one person was using their monthly cell minutes to dish about him. Although this could have been awkward for a young twenty-two year old to navigate, Lucky never let any of the porn stigmas get him down.
We know many of you out there will be upset when you read this, but Lucky is a taken man. Many guys that we have spoken to in the past have admitted to us that they have issues dating other people because of what they do, but not Lucky. “My boyfriend is really cool with me doing porn. He actually saw one of my movies and said, ‘It’s really strange, but I’m kind of turned on.’” It’s not really a reaction that you would expect, but Lucky does admit that he was very upfront when they started dating about what he does. “I told him right away that I do porn, and I told him that it’s not what people perceive it to be as far as this intimate connection. We’re working with directors and cameramen trying to do all these different angles – it’s a job, an unconventional job. Yes, the people I am working with we’re technically having sex, but we don’t have the emotional attachment someone would have if they were in love with the person. I know a few people that date other people in the industry because both people understand what the industry is about.”
Even though a guy may appear in gay porn films, it’s important not to assume he’s gay. After all, that’s the kind of mis-statement that could get around a small town faster than a tranny gets to a sale at Chic Wide Shoes! Just to set the record straight (or not), we next asked Lucky about his sexual orientation. “I’m gay, but I considered myself straight when I started out in gay porn a few years ago. Within two years I made the transition from straight to bi to gay.” Not that this would be news to anyone back in his hometown, since some of its residents have already started googling him and then contacting him via his public porn account.
There has always been friendly controversy and fascination about the straight guys who work in the gay porn industry. One of the sites that often stirs up such controversy is Randy Blue. Since we knew that Lucky had boinked a few straight dudes, we were curious to get Lucky’s take on whether or not gay men and straight men differed in bed. “Not really. At this point, if I’m with a straight guy he’s usually very new to porn. I kind of feel like a teacher in a way, so I try to help them. A lot of times they’re straight/curious. I’m a laid back person, so on shoots I try to create a laid back atmosphere. We’re working, but you need to enjoy what you’re doing – and a lot of people don’t realize that if you’re stressed out or worried, it’s very hard to get an erection. It makes the shoot go on longer. It feels extremely quick when I work with a gay guy, but I haven’t had any issues with guys who are straight (or straight for now.)”
When we asked him to spill the beans about his favorite performer to work with, no one came to his mind as fast as Benjamin Bradley “I did a scene with him for Chi Chi LaRue Seize Your Bottom. He’s really laid back like me, so the shoot went very well.”
In life not everything is puppies and rainbows, sometimes work (or certain co-workers can be difficult. We told him he didn’t have to name any names, but asked if he had ever witnessed a diva moment on the set. “Yes I have.” At this point he stops to laugh. “Most everyone I work with has been really nice but there was one shoot that I’ve done that was a very difficult shoot to do. I personally didn’t have any disagreement with the person it was just that the shoot was dragging on because they were being difficult.”
There’s a lot going on during a porn shoot, so we were interested to learn what exactly went through Lucky’s mind when he was in the middle of filming a scene. “I actually make a point to clear my head and to be totally engulfed in what I’m doing in the scene. If I’m not filming a scene, I’m listening to my iPOD and relaxing. When we get a break I get some water – and if I’m not bottoming then I’ll get a little food to eat.” Once he touched on the bottoming issue, we couldn’t resist asking him about his pre-shoot preparations. “If I’m bottoming, I don’t eat until I’m completely done with filming the scene. I stop eating at 10pm the night before, so I’m super-hungry by the time we’re done filming. I know my body very well. I’ve heard horror stories, so I’m very conscientious about it.” So with all the hoopla that’s involved – including the potential for an embarrassing moment to be forever preserved on camera – we had to ask Lucky if he considered bottoming to be the hardest thing. “I think it depends on the person. I think if some people have a harder time getting an erection then I think bottoming would be easier for them, but otherwise for me bottoming is more work. When I’m topping I can eat food.”
For some porn stars, all of this probing talk might be very awkward and uncomfortable – but not Lucky, who is incredibly open and relaxed about almost everything. “I made a list of the pros and cons before I decided to join the porn industry,” he explained. The cons definitely made him a little nervous at first, but he has actually felt a sense of relief after encountering and subsequently checking them off on his mental list.
We were surprised to learn that Lucky was formerly in the military and that he was currently waiting for his official discharge (after someone discovered his porn career.) It’s yet another good example of the many ways in Which Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is fundamentally broken. Things could be worse, though. Some soldiers are thrown in military prison if they are discovered to be doing porn while they are technically on active duty – especially soldiers who flaunt their sexual status on sites with military themes such as Active Duty or AWOL Marines, or who appear in the sort of military sex films made by Dink Flamingo.
While talking to Lucky, we managed to get a little on-set gossip about some of his co-workers, and had to laugh with him when he told us, “I always have to laugh at some of the straight guys who say ‘I’m totally straight, but I love trannies.’ I’ve never been with a tranny, I have tranny friends, it’s not my place to judge, but I find it very humorous when people tell me this.”
As our chat drew to a close, we asked Lucky if there was any one aspect of porn that was his favorite. He frankly replied, “Cumming is probably my favorite part. After you’ve been rubbing your dick throughout a shoot that ends up lasting for a few hours, you’re really ready to cum.”
What new adventures might the future hold for Lucky, we asked. “I don’t know that I want to create my own website, because I’m pursuing mainstream modeling. And I have other goals that I’ve laid out. But I haven’t decided to make the leap into doing my own stuff yet.” We were pleasantly surprised to learn that Lucky had actually been writing a book. It’s basically a memoir about his life that focuses on his porn career and the ways in which it has affected his overall life’s journey.
Maybe Lucky Daniel’s really is lucky. After all, he’s got beauty, brains, sex appeal, and incredible charisma. Want to know if Lucky will be visiting a town near you soon? You can find out on his MySpace page.
