This month we spoke to three of the porn bloggers who bring us all of the latest gossip and breaking news of the industry. But if you think they’ve got it easy, you can think again. In recent years we’ve seen the arrests of too many well-known porn stars, including two brothers who even earned a nod on Perez Hilton’s infamous blog. A big star’s life can easily undergo a melt down and the porn industry has more than its share of murders, porn set police raids, bareback controversy, military scandals, and even a University wrestling scandal — and that’s just the tip of the iceberg!
Many people may not know this about him, but Jason Sechrest first came into contact with the porn industry when he was just 15 years old. “I started writing for mainstream magazines as a cub reporter,” he explains. “One of the magazines was called Femme Fatales, which interviewed a lot of porn to mainstream crossover stars. When I moved to L.A. at 18, I was living on the streets — so I called every person I’d ever interviewed to see if they could help me to find work or a place to stay. It was the adult stars I’d interviewed who actually called back. They embraced me and took me under their wings and eventually made me a part of the family.” Today, besides running his own site that offers straight, gay and bisexual content, Jason hosts interviews with porn stars all over West Hollywood and Silverlake. Jason has also had his own radio show and has even made a few non-sexual appearances in movies such as Jet Set’s Wet Palms, for which he received both Grabby and GAYVN Award nominations.
One blogger who always seems to raise eyebrows is Kruezer at Night’s founder Damon. If you’re familiar with this site, you’ll know why many refer to it as the industry’s biggest guilty pleasure. Damon pulls no punches in his commentaries about the industry and his no-holds-bar attitude has some people wishing he would just go away. “I was determined to make it a brand identity,” he explains about his decision to enter the porn industry, “and to make it an alternative and unbiased viewpoint as compared to the other sites that all tend to share the same viewpoints and to simultaneously cover the exact same people and events.” He also talks extensively about the murder of Cobra Video founder and director Bryan Kocis and explained to us that he and Kocis had been good friends. He then cryptically added that, “There is an untold story involving Brent Corrigan and what someone in Virginia wanted to do to him following the murder that I am holding in reserve.”
We’ve noticed some tension between Damon and Jason, at least on the part of Damon, who accuses Jason of being, “uninterested in being even remotely fair or objective. He often confuses his personal likes and dislikes with facts — and fails to offer respect to the very people from whom he makes his living.” In his blog, Damon also accuses Jason of saying that his site did not deserve to receive a Cybersocket Award nomination. We asked Jason to clarify his statement, to which he replied, “I’ve actually never said that. If you can show me where I have, I’d love to see it, because it doesn’t exist. I don’t know what his deal is. I think he likes to say people have said or done things so that those people will then contact him and try to correct it. That’s his MO. But I have no desire to correct it or to contact him. It just seems ludicrous to me.”
Another well-known blogger is JC Adams, who sits at the helm of the Gay Porn Times. Along with publishing a collection of his columns to commemorate ten years of The Adams Report (scheduled for a Summer 2009 release), Adams was recently asked to help contribute to industry favorite news magazine Xbiz. When asked if there were any topics that were taboo, he replied, “I don’t really write too much about relationships anymore. I know my readers like the gossip, but I find it just causes more trouble than it’s worth to chronicle the dating scene. Who can keep up? It’s like a really explicit game of musical chairs.” Adams also explained the two keys to success. “The first is an original point of view. And the second is consistency. Your readers have to know they can depend on you to provide original content on a consistent basis, or they have no reason to bookmark you.”
