Michael Lucas On Blogging
By Danny Valle

No one can accuse Michael Lucas of being lazy. The outspoken porn maverick set up shop in New York ten years ago - and like a good wine, his company, Lucas Entertainment, has gone from excellent to sublime over the years. One of the things that has made Lucas so successful is his knack for keeping himself and his properties well represented in the media. Another asset — one that has stirred up quite a bit of controversy and even more respect — is his honesty. Whether he's talking politics, going public about problems with models, or simply being himself, Lucas always seems to spark the public's interest and to make the headlines. His blog, unlike many others, is not simply an outlet for product promotion. It's a real blog, in the true sense of the word, and Michael uses it to give his fans a sneak peak into his personal life, his beliefs, his adventures, and the behind-the-scenes world of Lucas Entertainment. Besides raising the bar for porn films, Michael Lucas has also raised the bar for the entire industry by showing us what an honest, demanding, drug-free professional can accomplish when he approaches porn production in the way that any good businessman would approach any other industry. Here's what Lucas had to say during a recent chat.

Do you read any other blogs for inspiration?
Nope.

Has it been hard to add blogging to your list of tasks?
Sure, although I never spend more than twenty minutes on my blog posts.

Do you enjoy the feedback that you get from your postings?
It depends on the feedback. Nobody wants to be criticized. Everybody wants to be idolized. I'm not an exception.

You've said before that being a successful blogger means tackling a variety of topics. Do you think it's harder for those in the porn industry to be taken seriously?
I think that if I weren't in the porn industry, no one would pay attention to my writings. You have to be someone to generate interest. I'm interesting because I'm a porn star with guts.

You've also stated that being truthful can cause people to perceive you as mean-spirited. Do you ever hold your tongue to spare someone's feelings?
Of course, when it comes to my family and friends. But when you say mean-spirited, does it mean I have to lie in order to prevent someone's feelings from being hurt? I left Russia and came to America to speak the truth.

You fired a performer from one of your shoots and left it in the film, and also criticized Slava Mogutin for a negative comment he made. Do you do these things for publicity, or just to set the record straight?

Sometimes I do things to clear things up. Sometimes I do things for publicity. I've fired many nasty, irresponsible, disrespectful models from productions because I am not having that energy on my sets. In this particular instance, I captured it on film as a publicity stunt. I don't see anything wrong with it since everybody is looking for publicity.  I'm just more successful at it. Stupid people accuse me of being a publicity whore, which is fine with me. Any successful businessman is a publicity whore. Anyone with two brain cells in their head understands that publicity is the key to a successful marketing campaign.

You recently faked your own death as a PR stunt. Is there anything you wouldn't do?
Yes. I think that was a mistake, as many people actually took it seriously and became worried and shocked. That was absolutely not my intent. What happened was that I didn't realize that a lot of people use blackberries and cannot open attachments. Those who did immediately got the hint, but some didn't because they couldn't see the image. My apologies to those who were concerned about my life.

What advice do you have for other high-profile porn industry bloggers?
I don't have advice. I think people should do their own thing.

Is the Michael Lucas we read about and see in films just a persona, or is that the real you?
No, I think I am the same person. I am blunt, honest, disciplined, and I think in general a good person. A lot of aspects of my life just aren't captured, such as my relationships with family, friends, my boyfriend, etc.

Cybersocket Picks

If you're a fan of the handsome stud farm know as RandyBlue.com then you should visit this personal journal of part-time Randy Blue photographer and full-time bear-licious hottie Jeremy Lucido. With everything from behind-the-scenes pics to gratuitous galleries of “Guys I'd like to fuck”, Jeremy's blog is candid, risqué, and sometimes way too honest. Don't miss the solo jack-off video he posted of himself on xtube.com a few months back! Scandalous!

In the warm, sticky sea of porn star blogs, there's really only one blogger who keeps shooting long after the cameras are off, and that's twinkboy Brent Corrigan with his constantly updated journal. With tons of hot photos and personal entries, you'll feel like you're right there with young Brent for all of his XXX shenanigans. It's definitely the closest thing to the fountain of youth that you'll ever find on the web!

It's like the Brady Bunch Theme: “Here's a story, about a boy named Jared, who was whipping up one very sexy blog...” Actually, the daily updates from this anonymous “surfer bro” blogger - which include his tales of sexual exploration mixed with photos of semi-nude studs — are a lot less Brady and a lot more XXX. Our only problem with the site? This horned-up San Franciscan has yet to reveal his identity, because he says the secrecy helps him to freely share his sexual desires without feeling self-conscious. On second thought, maybe it's better if he stays hidden!

One part Defamer.com, two parts Queerty.com, and a sprinkling of PerezHilton.com are the ingredients that make up this snarky, sharp-tongued mega-site that aggregates news from a number of thought-provoking gay blogs. With a motto like “Suck on this!” it's no wonder that editor Michael Stabile (of gaypornblog.com fame) and his irreverent observations have long been a favorite of gay surfers.
