Even so, Maleflixxx is a brand known for its consistent quality and top-notch customer service. Recently, the company has also partnered with both Titan Men and Lucas Entertainment to help them create private label theaters that use Maleflixxx technology.
   
Despite the flurry of activity, three of the key players from Maleflixxx were kind enough to chat with us. Eric Johnson, the company's president, explained that they originally had a business model focused on streaming Hollywood movies to computers. When it didn't pan out, the company’s founder, Erik Schannen, had a flash of insight. “What about porn?” he asked, planting a seed that would eventually grow into an enormous new business.
    
“At the time, porn was the number one currency on the Internet,” Johnson said, explaining that his involvement began when he was brought on board to raise capital for the venture.
   
“It was really difficult to get private investors to fork over cash to build the company,” he stated. But that hurdle was soon overcome, thanks to the team’s philosophy of “sticking to what we know how to do, and trying to be the best at it.” One of the first orders of business was to begin amassing their vast library of videos. “We went with the high-end studios first and tried to get the best-of-the-best content, which we were able to do,” Johnson recounted. “Then we started building on that with different genres and themes to broaden the content.”
   
Eight years later, that attempt to diversify has truly paid off. The team (thirty full-time employees, plus freelancers and temps) just launched the Sureflix PR site to help promote the many projects happening at Sureflix. For example, their groundbreaking gay adult cable TV channels in Canada and France and their work in the mobile sector. “We have a lot of products and services,” Johnson said. “As a company, Sureflix does many things.”
   
Despite enormous traffic and huge bandwidth requirements, the Malelfixxx team has kept the site up and running for over eight years with 99.9% of up time. They've achieved this by co-locating their servers around the world at five different server farms. It's basically a fail-safe operation, since traffic can be re-routed if a location should fail. Server maintenance makes up a large portion of the operating budget, but it’s clear that they’ve never cut any corners on infrastructure.
   
Besides reliability, other keys to the company’s success include good customer service and a great user interface. “Everything at the site is designed to create a better user experience,” says Welsh, a sentiment that was echoed by marketing manager Ewan French. “We're always trying to find out what consumers want,” French said.
   
The Maleflixxx team works hard to drive traffic and sales to the site with print and online ads, bar promotions, and trade show attendance. In their quest to stay a few steps ahead of the competition, they’ve found that listening to users is their best strategy.
   
“We analyze, analyze, and analyze all of our data,” French explained. “We have real-time tracking, so we can see sales figures at any given moment. If sales are going up in a niche genre, that's the content we want on our site.”
   
Eight years ago, Johnson wagered that video-on-demand was here to stay. He was right — and it looks like Maleflixxx is here to stay, too.
